Brief history and responsibilities

The Mother Butler Guild (MBG) of the Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish was organized in October 1990 by Rev. Fr. Jaime Zurbano Jr. at the Chaplaincy of St. Charbel I, Mindanao Avenue. Its members learned the workings of the apostolate through the assistance and guidance of the well-meaning ladies of the MBG of St. Joseph Parish on Aurora Blvd. The new unit was then chartered by vice president Carlita Yap on March 1991 with Sister Judy Odsinada as its charter president.

Being the first organized group in the chaplaincy, its members took many concerns like the upkeep and cleanliness of the altar and the chapel, the Mass, collecting alms, buying and arranging flowers for the altar. They were also involved in assisting the priest in the realization of a chaplaincy; going out to the barangay, the villages and subdivisions to inform them of the services of the church at the St. Charbel Chaplaincy and gathering them to celebrate the Mass in small clearances, parks, and even on the streets.

The Chaplaincy of St. Charbel eventually grew into the Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish and the Mother Butler Guild began to concentrate more on duties specifically mandated of them like the making of sacred lines; the altar cloth, corporal, purificators, pall and finger towels, and providing or making ready sacred vestments for the Eucharistic celebrations; chasuble and the stole, etc. Arranging flowers for the sanctuary and for the holy images in the church is a bi-weekly chore of the MBG which is now grouped according to the different chores for the month. Collection of alms during the first three Masses on Sundays is an added task which they humbly perform with pride while properly groomed in their beige uniform.

The MBG members are Servants of Jesus, called and chosen by the Father in our service in the church alongside His Son; they are women of the Eucharist, drawing their lives, from the Eucharist, knowing and loving Jesus and making Him loved; they are Housekeepers of the Lord- keeping order the house of the Lord, humbly, lovingly and joyfully.
