MusiKrismas - Takes Audience to the Presence of God and His Angels

By MYRNA F. VIRTUDAZO

MusiKrismas, the Advent concert that gathered the 15 choirs of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, was a synthesis of the glorious and overwhelming performance that brought its audience to the presence of God and His angels. The audience was so taken by the experience on that vibrant evening of December 3, 2011, firing the imagination and setting the mood of the Liturgical season that indeed, it is “Pasko na Sinta Ko.” The sweet success of singing for the glory of the One who is to come, who comes even now in the Eucharist and among us, was palpable for every soul onstage – after all the tears, efforts and sacrifices during practices and preparations.

The concert retold the central event of Christmas affectingly with vivid imagery though with simplicity. The people couldn’t help but feel the sense of wonder – and sometimes with danceable joy. Each choir was at its best showcasing its exceptional animation and gusto. Some even sang difficult passages with confidence and brilliance! The performers were prepared not only with their vocals, but also with their outfits as well: from angelic and reindeer costumes to elegant evening wear or Filipiniana dresses.

The choral program offered Christmas carols depending on the theme of their songs as follows: Part I – Ipinanganak si Hesus ng Birheng Ina; Part II – Celebrating Christmas that included Pasko sa Pinas. An added bonus was an intermission dance number by Dianne Medina and Rodjun Cruz to the tune of Last Christmas (Remix).

The finale, a community singing led by the 15 choirs as they sang Ang Pasko ay Sumapit and Pasko na Naman, was a celebration of joy, love and euphoria urging mankind to sing beautiful songs for the Baby Jesus is born. Truly, the concert must go down as one of the major milestones of OLAP showcasing its artistic talents. Msgr. Romy Rañada, who enjoyed covering the event with his iPad, will surely agree.

In fact, PPC premier servant leader Josie Geronimo and Emerald Year Steering Committee chair Evelyn Roble together with the PPC members joined the singing and dancing amid the cheers and applause to the smash hit success. The night ended with everyone enjoying a wonderful evening of music with the spirit of the Advent season. Its come-on strategy, “no tickets required, but donations requested” was a clever fund-raising project like no other.

Indeed, the OLAP Music Ministry in cooperation with the Parish Youth Choir proudly drew the best performance for the occasion in celebration of OLAP@20 making it one of the major countdown celebrations for the grand Emerald Anniversary slated on May 26, 2012. Ate Reggie Galvez, Kuya Richard Evangelista, Ate Mariette Herrera, and Kuya Dominic Gumamela joined forces to produce the concert of encompassing genre, varying vocal skills and excellence.
