OLAP GOT TALENT
As part of the celebration of OLAP Emerald Fiesta 2012, the OLAP Got Talent Contest was successfully held last Friday, May 4, 2012. Volunteers from the Music Ministry composing the OGT working team helmed the event that showcased the talents of our young parishioners.
An initial screening was held last April 30 and May 1. Out of the 30 participants who auditioned, 12 made it as finalists giving them the chance to display their talents and win big prizes courtesy of the Fiesta hermanos and hermanas.
The talent contest was hosted by the sister team of Ms. Katrina Medina and ABS-CBN talent artist, Ms. Dianne Medina. Both are members of the Lectors and Commentators Ministry.
The program was formally opened by the Beatus Optimus Group's interpretative dance of the song Magnificat which spoke of Mary's glorifying of the Lord's goodness and love. The night was also brightened up by the
performance of Kalipaya Dance Group, OLAP PREX Praise Music Ministry, and the encore performance of the Beatus Optimus Group. The presence of guest artists all the more made the show exciting. They were Ms. Valerie “Bangs” Garcia, Mr. Arron Villaflor, and Mr. Rodjun Cruz who delighted the audience with an enjoyable dance and song number from his album.
Our community was privileged to have as our competent judges, Mr. Albert Saldajeno, the head animator of Kairos Pastoral Liturgical Theatre Ministry, Mr. Gabriel Caluya, a PEHM teacher from Tandang Sora Elementary School, and Ms. Tina Monasterio, a former character actress. The judges really had a difficult time deciding the winners among the contestants for it was a close fight.
While computing and ranking the average scores of the contestants, the stage was turned over to Parish Youth Ministers, Kuya Doc Paris and Ate Tess Almajar, for the announcement of the 2012 Sportsfest winners as follows: Blue Team as best banner; Green Team as best in cheering competition and champion in volleyball and “agawan base;” Yellow Team as champion in basketball, dragon tail game and “patintero;” Ms. Celine Calugay as Best Muse with Mr. Aaron Boado as Best Escort; Mr. Jerick Montecalvo as MVP in basketball together with Reynaldo Janala, Jefferson Masilang, Glen Gili, Mark Arganda as the Mythical 5 players in basketball; and Richard Villarante, Arvin Basa, Michael, Reenald Inocando,, Rowel Mahinay, and Keypee Yomol as the Mythical 6 players in volleyball.
Finally, it was time to proclaim the winners of the OLAP Got Talent Contest. The judges, together with Msgr. Rañada, Ate Josie Geronimo, and Hermana Mayora Evelyn Roble, gave the awards as follows: Ms. Daisylyn Labatete, first place; Mr. Dave Caunca, second place; and the Likhaan Dance Group and Ms. Kyla Melisse Atadero, third place.
The hermanos and hermanas led by Ate Evelyn, and the Fiesta Program Committee composed of Ate Mel and Ate Jeanne Herrera, Ate Mayette Fondevilla and Ate Myrna Virtudazo, were thankful to the OGT working committee for a very colourful Fiesta evening. The Working Committee is composed of our Music Ministry Head, Sis. Reggie Galvez, and members of various OLAP choirs namely Rona Bautista, Vina Bautista, Rajah Bocobo, Myline Canlas, Lady Diaz, Mon Faustino, Justin Pontino and Argel Saret who devotedly offered their time, ideas, and efforts in planning and carrying out the event. Despite the pouring rain and some inevitable problems hours before the start of the program, the event was absolutely a success.
The night was overflowing with celebration and thanksgiving for the many gifts and talents that the Lord has given us. Certainly there is nothing more fitting than to share it to the community and offer it for the greater glory of God. (Arvin Lopez Dalumpines)
