2009 OLAP INVITATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT
By Kuya Pete & Ate Rose de Guzman, 2009 OLAP Bowling Committee Chair Couple
The 8-Week long Bowling Tournament of OLAP was finally concluded last Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Commonwealth Lanes, Ever Gotesco, Quezon City. All fourteen teams (including 5 Parishes, 2 Barangays) that participated in this year's event were all winners in their own class. A perfect respite for all our tensions and stress from various church activities and office works. Every team went home with trophies to display. OLAP Parish Priest, Msgr Romy Rañada, braved the heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue, caused by the influx of people in the wake of Iglesia ni Cristo leader, just to personally hand over the trophies to all winners. It is almost unbelievable that the awarding ceremonies which lasted till almost 12 midnight were eagerly witnessed by almost all the members of the 14 teams.
Class “A” champion was a guest team from Barangay Greater Fairview besting the defending champion OLAP Green Thumb team; 2nd runner-up went to OLAP CFC-FFL after beating twice the OLAP Red Sea team. Class “B” champion is the OLAP Exodo team defeating the undermanned guest team from San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish while another guest team from Christ the King Parish bagged the 2nd runner-up award after winning over the OLAP M.E. team. Class “C” champion is another guest team from Barangay Tandang Sora upending the spirited team from St. Peter Parish, guest team NOVA was the 2nd runner-up defeating OLAP Lectors & Commentators team, followed by guest team from Visitation of Our Lady Parish winning over OLAP Parish team. The team trophies were generously donated by former Cong. Chuck Mathay, individual trophies by Mayor Sonny Belmonte thru Secretary Tady Palma and trophies for Masters' Event by Commonwealth Lanes . Other generous donors and sponsors who made this an unforgettable event are : Councilor Candy Medina, KGM Network Inc. (c/o Dante Soriano), SkyHealthy Water - Gil & Kathy Rustia, SPEED - Patrick Soriano (c/o Helen Carpio), ASC Mfg Corp (c/o Josie Geronimo), Brgy Chairman Hector Geronimo, Nestea Juice Drinks - Gerry Garcia (c/o Helen Carpio), Triumph Phils - Franz Alvarez, Danny & Irene Arroyo, Ben & Mayette Fondevilla, Zesto Drinks, Cristy Bernardo, Del Monte products – Earl Joseph Javier, Datem Inc., Jimmy & Zenaida Tom-Wong, Reny & Ida Carreon, Ellen Lising and Antonio Sy Teng.
True to our motto: “Nag-enjoy ka na, nagdonate ka pa sa simbahan.”
All the participating teams are expecting a bigger and more fun-filled tournament next year. They do not mind the tournament fees nor the lanes fees because what matters to them is the terrific bonding each parishioner had with one another. All the hecklings, the oohhs and the aahhs added enjoyment to every ball hitting the pins with a wham!
Proceeds of this fund raising activity will be used for the various formation programs of the parish. This project is spearheaded by the M.E. Community as overall coordinator.
We cannot thank enough the people who made this event very successful especially those in the backroom who did all the hard work as the game progresses until the unforgettable conclusion on the final day.
Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary joyfully celebrated
By Achie Pardo
Parishioners and Marian devotees flocked to OLAP and joyfully celebrated the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary last Tuesday, Sept 8. OLAP had scheduled 4 additional Masses that day to accommodate devotees from the various sectors, one of which was presided by the Most Rev. Antonio Tobias, our bishop.
OLAP was also fortunate to have H.E. Deogracias Iniguez, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Kalookan on the last day day of the Novena Masses, the eve of the Feast. The earlier Novena Masses were presided by other Bishops and priests.
Msgr. Romy would like once again to thank our parishioners, the PPC, the various Ministries and Organizations, and our Mass Sponsors and Offerors, for their generous support.
